My minor in Professional Writing with a focus on Professional Editing has been pivotal in shaping my skills and expertise for a career in the editing and publishing industry. This rigorous program at UCSB emphasized advanced writing, editing techniques, and practical applications in various professional contexts. I developed high proficiency in Chicago and APA Manuals of Style, publication management, digital content, editorial software suites (e.g., Microsoft, Google), and adaptability to house style guides.
The capstone courses in the Professional Writing Minor provided opportunities to apply my learning in the real world during my undergraduate education. My internship at Performing Stars of Marin was particularly transformative. I produced grant proposals that successfully generated $50,000 in funding. This experience refined my strategic communication, content development, and stakeholder engagement skills.
