About Me

Who Am I?
Hello! My name is Anna Jay, and I am a dedicated and creative professional with over three years of experience in the fields of editing and writing and a strong foundation in grammar and stylistics. I have a deep passion for the power of words and language, and my goal is to help others communicate their ideas effectively. I hold a minor in Professional Writing and Editing from the University of California, Santa Barbara, alongside a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies. The combination of academic training and professional experience has equipped me with a thorough understanding of language, writing, and editing.
My Journey
My journey into the world of editing and publishing has been shaped by both personal challenges and professional experiences. After battling Lyme Disease for six years, I learned resilience and self-advocacy, which fueled my determination to succeed. I transformed my struggle with words into a passion for writing and editing during this time. My education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, allowed me to delve deeper into language studies, where I took specialized courses in writing and editing, as well as Spanish language classes to enhance my linguistic skills.
I started my career as a freelance copyeditor and lead writer and editor for a non-profit organization. These roles have allowed me to refine my skills, work with diverse clients, and produce high-quality content under tight deadlines. Now, I am eager to gain new experiences and take on fresh challenges in the writing and editing field.

Experience
I thrive on learning and gaining insights from others, and I am always eager to enhance my skills and stay at the forefront of industry trends. Whether it's through editing complex manuscripts, crafting grant proposals, or exploring the nuances of language in my blog posts, I am driven by a love and dedication to quality writing.
Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to edit various publications in fields such as medicine, politics, and nonfiction—examples of these can be found in the editing section of this website. I thrive on the diverse challenges that editing offers and enjoy collaborating with professionals from different industries to bring their unique writing goals to life. My freelance work has furthered my ability to work effectively with a wide range of content and individuals, ensuring their writing is clear, engaging, and impactful.
In addition to my freelance editing work, I served as the lead writer and editor for Performing Stars of Marin—this non-profit offers and coordinates enrichment programs for low-income multicultural youth. Within my first three months, I successfully secured over $50,000 in grant funding, orchestrated an educational youth excursion to Selma, Alabama—providing students with a firsthand education of slavery and the chance to tour two universities— and secured a prominent spot for the organization's traveling historical exhibition in the rotating exhibit at San Francisco International Airport. This is just a glimpse of the dedication and passion I bring to my work. This role involved collaborating with program managers and finance teams to create persuasive narratives that demonstrated the organization's impact and effectiveness. My ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines has been a key factor in my professional success.
A Little More About Me!
I am currently located in San Francisco, CA, but I am originally from Fairfax, a small town in northern California. I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, for a year, studying international relations and religious studies. I love to read, collage, paint, and be outside. Having a lot of hobbies was one of the best compliments I received this year. I have been to 20 different countries; my favorite so far are Belize, Japan, and Croatia but there are still many more places I hope to visit someday. A recent and heartwarming addition to my life is Jefferson, a 13-year-old cat I adopted from the shelter. At first, he was a bit hesitant, but now we’re the best of friends.
